Are you a trading GOD 😎, or a trading monkey 🐒?
This app compares your investing skills against multiple benchmarks: an all-knowing investing god, random monkeys, and Dollar Cost Averaging (DCA).
A trading GOD knows exactly when to buy and when to sell. To maximise compounding, he always trades 100% of his capital. The more trades he is allowed to make, the higher his returns.
A trading Monkey is the most unknowledgeable trader possible. He buys and sells at completely random timepoints. If he makes any gains, it's either due to luck or the overall trend of the stock value.
Dollar Cost Averaging (DCA) represents the passive strategy of investing a fixed amount at regular intervals regardless of price. This is often recommended for average investors.
The app simulates two types of trading monkeys:
- In-n-out Monkeys pick random non-overlapping buy and sell pairs. They execute pairs in sequence using the chosen per-pair investment percentage. This tests how sensitive results are to pair selection when respecting the same constraints as GOD mode.
- Whatever Monkeys pick random valid action sequences subject to the no-short rule. Each Buy invests a chosen percent of current assets. Each Sell liquidates a chosen percent of shares. Any leftover shares are valued at the final close.
